What viewers didn’t see about Laura Sharrad’s burn injury during the MasterChef Grand Finale

‘I wanted to scream, it was that painful!’ What viewers DIDN’T see about Laura Sharrad’s burn injury during the MasterChef finale

She accidentally burned her hand after picking up a hot pan full of bubbling caramel.

But, that didn’t stop runner-up Laura Sharrad from finishing her cook in the grand final of MasterChef: Back to Win.

On Tuesday the 24-year-old reality star admitted that the injury was actually a lot worse than what viewers saw on TV.

‘I was in agonising pain’ Laura Sharrad admitted that the injury was a lot worse than what viewers saw on TV

‘I was in agonising pain like I wanted to scream, it was that painful,’ she told HuffPost Australia.

Despite the pain she was feeling Laura said all she was focused on was giving the judges a perfect dish.

‘The nurses were standing there trying to bandage me up and put the cream on it and run cold water on it, but all I wanted to do was continue to cook,’ she explained.

Many viewers were quick to voice their concerns on Twitter over the hygiene of cooking with an uncovered bandage.

‘Why doesn’t Laura have a glove over her bandage? That is disgusting,’ one viewer wrote.

Another commented: ‘Am I the only one concerned about the hygiene issue of Laura’s bandage touching people’s food?’

However, Laura revealed that viewers didn’t see the nurses redress her hand with clean bandages several times over the course of the cook.

‘I think I got it redressed maybe four times for the rest of the cook,’ she said.

While her mind was focused on cooking at the time, Laura said that in hindsight she is glad the nurses attended to the injury.

‘It was a pretty bad burn and I think getting that medical attention straight away definitely helped.’

Sadly Laura’s efforts weren’t enough to see her take out the title of MasterChef Australia winner.

Fellow contestant Emelia Jackson was crowned the winner of the show, pocketing the $250,000 prize money.
