Tyler Perry flew home to Georgia in order to vote in person in the Senate runoff elections because he did not receive his absentee ballot in time

He wasn’t able to vote in his preferred way, so he took matters into his own hands this week.

Madea superstar Tyler Perry took to Twitter and Instagram on Tuesday to inform his followers that he had voted in person in the Georgia Senate runoff elections.

The actor and megaproducer, 51, had intended to vote via absentee ballot, but that ballot never came.

On his social media, the Atlanta resident wore a blue sweater adorned with a Georgia peach sticker. 

‘All right, my absentee ballot never came, so I just left voting in person,’ the Diary of a Mad Black Woman star said from his car. 

Perry ended his brief testimonial with a call to action: ‘Y’all get out and vote, get out and vote, get out and vote! Alright? bless y’all.’

The New York Times reported that Tyler actually took a flight from Wyoming to Georgia late Monday, in order to be at the polls in person on Tuesday.

Georgia’s runoff elections this month are of particular significance, as the results will determine whether Republicans or Democrats will maintain majority control of the US Senate.

The race is between Democratic candidates Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, and Republican incumbents David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.

As with November’s presidential election, the projected results of this week’s election in Georgia are too close to call definitively ahead of time.

Perry’s decision to hop on a plane comes at a moment when the coronavirus pandemic is at yet another height, with a far more transmissible variant of the disease currently circulating.
