Shelley Ware says it’s about time social media cleaned up it’s racist troll problem. 

Speaking to The Herald Sun on Monday, The Marngrook Footy Show presenter called for the change to media law, after being the target of vicious comments from fake accounts on Instagram. 

She told the paper: ‘Absolutely they need to be tighter and in the reporting of it. It’s actually quite difficult to report a comment and they certainly need to tidy that up.

‘Something has to be done,’ she added, while praising the Black Lives Matter movement for helping to address the issue of racism in our society. 

Shelley revealed that she wants this sort of behaviour, ‘gone for future generations’ as ‘it’s not acceptable in society anymore.’

‘Action needs to happen around that and we need our laws to change quickly so people are protected from the need to hurt others,’ she added.

The motivational speaker added that she has been the target of such bullies for years and enough is enough. 

‘It’s played a massive role in my media career. Sometimes it’s in your face racism and sexism, and this sort of racism we see on Instagram is telling me to get back in my box,’ she said. 

Recently, Shelley called out a number of fake accounts which had been set up to target her online.

In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, she wrote at length: ‘So these fake accounts have left monkey emojis in the last six days…

‘Just gutless racists who hid behind fake accounts. Then the people that liked them. I’ve had them say it was a mistake. Please report the fake accounts.  

‘I know it seems like it’s not worth it but it is. @instagram needs to know that these images and the even more gutless people, who like the posts are full of racial intent and they need to act on them. Thank you’.
