Today hosts struggle to keep their composure during an interview with chatty Fran Drescher

Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon struggled to keep their composure during a bizarre interview with actress Fran Drescher on the Today show on Wednesday.

The 62-year-old Nanny star chatted incessantly during her six-minute appearance on the morning TV show, seemingly starved of human interaction after being put into lockdown in her Malibu mansion due to the coronavirus pandemic.

‘I haven’t left the house in a couple of weeks, and I’m very lucky, because I have a nice backyard and an ocean view, so I haven’t gotten cabin fever,’ she began.

‘I’m also doing all my own house cleaning, which is novel for me and keeping me very busy, so I took my nail polish off, because you cannot have a manicure and be doing housekeeping.

‘And I just got a rescue dog that you may see here, just days before our California governor imposed the isolation on us, and so, I feel so blessed that I have this sweet dog to keep me company, because otherwise I would have been completely alone here.’

Karl, 45, then tried to interrupt the talkative star, but she continued chatting, telling the Today hosts how social media enabled her to keep in contact with her parents.

She then rattled off a list of things she believes helps to kill off the virus, telling people to take advantage of natural sunlight and to use bleach.

As she continued talking without pausing, both Karl and Allison, 40, seemed bemused as they tried to suppress their laughter.

At one stage, Allison looked down at her laptop and struggled to hide a telling smile, as Karl knowingly glanced over at her, before laughing.

Fran then urged people to ‘exhale and hum’, claiming it helps clear out the nasal passage, preventing the virus from ‘spreading down into the lungs’.

She then demonstrated how it’s done, making humming noises, and leaving Karl and Allison unable to suppress their laughter any longer.

Thinking he had an opening, Karl opened his mouth to speak, before Fran continued, telling the hosts she’s ‘been taking a lot of Vitamin C’.

The incredulous Today host shook his head, while Allison struggled to look up from her computer screen as she tried to compose herself.

Seemingly oblivious to Karl’s attempts to interrupt her monologue, Fran continued, telling the show’s hosts, ‘We will get out the other side of this.’

After speaking nonstop for almost six minutes, Karl finally managed to interject, telling Fran, ‘That’s all we have time for.’

But she wasn’t quite done yet, telling the hosts she was yet to make ‘the biggest announcement’, revealing the cast of The Nanny was having a ‘virtual reunion’ on Monday, April 6.

‘Bury the headline, Fran!’ Karl laughed, before thanking the star for her time and telling her he had prepared questions for her, which he never got to ask.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there are 4,862 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Australia, including 21 deaths.
