The first floor offers more than 2,000 sqft of space, which currently includes a breath taking master bedroom suite, while the second floor contains an extensively glazed ‘orangery’ that would work particularly well as an office.

Meanwhile, the western side of the house has a more intimate, domestic scale and an Art Deco atmosphere.

Aston Chase who are selling the property, say it could be used a as a dwelling, as a commercial building, or as a combination of the two.

They added it would work equally well for a family requiring guest and staff accommodation as it would for an art foundation requiring premises with significant spatial drama.

The site has always had a commercial use.  A mid‐19th‐century census map shows a series of stables and barns where shell casings were manufactured during the First World War.

Express Dairies then used it to service their floats at a time when cattle were still grazed on nearby Primrose Hill.

Although Eglon House settles into the outline of the original structure it is an entirely new building.

Inspired as an homage to Pierre Chareau’s Maison de Verre the home has a modern, Parisian twist.

Pierre Chareau’s ‘House of Glass’ completed in 1932 was a milestone in early modern architectural design.

It was a pioneer of the modern‐day live, work phenomenon with a commercial space on the ground floor and living accommodation above.

It was commissioned by a Doctor Dalsace who hosted Surrealist soirees in his salle de sejour which were attended by Jean Cocteau Joan Miro and Yves Tanguy. The close proximity of other buildings dictated a transparent façade.

Eglon House takes its cues from Chareau’s original in a number of other ways as well.

There is also a museum‐grade bronze track lighting, the walls have been reinforced to take heavy artworks, and even the fire extinguishers have been custom‐made.

While discreet, the location that is also convenient with shops around the corner, and the open spaces of Primrose Hill and Regent’s Park are a short walk away.

Howard Kayman, Associate Director at Aston Chase told FEMAIL: ‘There is a prescience in the design of Eglon House in how it meets the demands of the world we now find ourselves in.

‘It combines large lateral studio spaces with intimate residential parts and successfully blurs the boundary between the two.

‘Director Tim Burton lived and worked in the space for several years, basing his creative studio there for the production of his Dumbo remake.

‘A space like this is a rarity in Prime Central London.’

Mark Pollack, Co-Founding Director at Aston Chase added: ‘Elgon House is a unique home without a parallel in London.

‘Secreted away at the foot of a peaceful mews, located in the very heart of Primrose Hill, the property is ideal for the growing number of super-prime buyers who favour maintaining a low profile in preference to the visibility afforded by some of London’s more obvious destinations for substantial homes.

‘The property comprises of 13,000 sq. ft. of accommodation split over two interlinked wings and in doing so provides remarkable versatility enabling either living and work spaces so that the property can be utilised as either a large private house, a home and office or living quarters in conjunction with a creative studio.

‘Eglon House is one of a kind and represents a perfect opportunity for a discerning purchaser who values their privacy and the ability to have flexible living/work accommodation.’

Russell Sage, Founder & Executive Creative Director at Russell Sage Studio added: ‘Working on Eglon House with a such a collaborative team of designers and highly skilled makers was a really positive experience.

‘Having the chance to use fabrics designed by Henry Moore and re-execute some of Pierre Chareau’s furniture was an excellent, rare opportunity.

‘I love the house because it finds the ideal balance and fluidity for living and working environments that weave in and out of one another effortlessly; so much more important in the world we now find ourselves.’

Eglon House is on sale for £20,000,000 with Aston Chase and is also available to let via Aston Chase for £15,000 per week.
