The Wiggles’ Emma Watkins reveals she doesn’t drink alcohol in public

‘I get lots of stares’: The Wiggles’ Emma Watkins reveals the one thing she can’t do in public as a high-profile children’s entertainer

The Wiggles have brought smiles to children’s faces for almost 30 years.

But the performers who wear the brightly coloured skivvies have to be careful how they present themselves in public.

Emma Watkins, a.k.a. The Yellow Wiggle, told The Morning Show on Wednesday that she is always ‘mindful’ of her reputation when she’s not working.

Emma, 30, was asked about the band’s rules on drinking alcohol in public, and she said that her policy is to avoid it completely.

‘You can’t be seen, presumably, with champagne in your hand and that sort of thing? Are you very mindful of that?’ asked host Kylie Gillies.

‘I guess. I don’t drink anyway,’ Emma replied.

‘I only ever have tea. But if I go out to a restaurant and I ask for a tea with dinner, I do get lots of stares regardless.’

Emma also spoke about social media and how it allows The Wiggles to connect with young fans around the world.

‘I think it’s been a really positive way of showing lots of news from the band, and from us personally,’ she said.

‘There is so much negative attention about social media, but we tend to use it in a very positive, pro-social way, including parents and children in most of the posts.’

‘So the more that we do, the better it has become,’ she added.

Outside of her work with The Wiggles, Emma also provides live sign language interpretation for Canadian folk band The East Pointers.
