Delta Goodrem was ‘absolutely broken’ after being trolled over her ‘annoying’ behaviour on The Voice – and insists the criticism was ‘unfair’

She is one of Australia’s most beloved stars, but that didn’t stop Delta Goodrem from copping plenty of criticism when she joined The Voice in 2012.

And the Born to Try singer, 34, has reflected on the relentless trolling she has faced from viewers over the past eight years.

Speaking to the September issue of Marie Claire, Delta said she was left ‘absolutely broken’ by some of the negative feedback she received.

The Voice star Delta Goodrem, 35, (pictured) has revealed she was ‘absolutely broken’ by trolling on the show before slamming the criticism as ‘unfair’ from viewers in Marie Claire

‘I don’t think all of it was fair [the criticism] but there’s a lot I can reflect on,’ she said.

‘At the time [of The Voice’s first season], being 27 and on TV, my brain could compute that it was part of the cycle. But it still hurt me.’

Delta has been the widely ridiculed by fans of The Voice for her supposedly ‘annoying’ and ‘theatrical’ behaviour.

Tough times: 'At the time being 27 and on TV, my brain could compute that it was part of the cycle. But it still hurt me,' Delta said, of the initial trolling she faced on the show

Far from letting it get her down, Delta said it taught her resilience.

‘It’s one thing to know of something. It’s another thing to have walked it. The chapter taught me resilience and made me stronger. What a gift,’ she said.

Because of this experience, Delta now cherishes those times when the ‘stars align’ and everything is going great for her in her professional and personal life.

Delta graces the cover of Marie Claire’s September issue in a strapless back dress, which she paired with natural-look makeup.

Her boyfriend, Matthew Copley, who attended the magazine photo shoot, said he was a big fan of her stripped-back style.

‘My favourite [look] is Delta in a T-shirt around the house: raw, authentic, natural beauty – no false eyelashes,’ he said.
