The Great British Bake Off’s Laura Adlington reveals she has contracted coronavirus and is now in self-isolation as her co-star sends her chocolate

Laura Adlington revealed on Tuesday that she has contracted coronavirus and is now in self-isolation at her home in Kent.

The Great British Bake Off star, 31, took to Instagram to update fans on her health, as she claimed it was a b***l ache to get the virus the week of Christmas.

Sharing an update with fans from her home, Laura gave her fans a closer look at the care package her co-star Lottie Bedlow had sent her, which made her feel ‘infinitely better’ during her current situation.

Laura wrote: ‘Getting Covid right before Christmas is a b**l ache, but having friends like @lottiegotcake makes it infinitely better. Thank you lover.’

The care package was complete with milk chocolate toffee, salted caramel biscuits, cocoa, and chocolate of various flavours that was sure to cheer Laura up.

While Laura is remaining in self-isolation, she revealed a friend has been helping to get her shopping, flowers, chocolate, and ‘snot drops’ as she battles the virus.

Laura missed out on winning The Great British Bake Off after making it to the final, and lost out to the title to Peter Sawkins.

Fans of the show praised Laura after she got emotional over the signature bake when her eight custard slices failed to set, and she hid her head in the freezer as she cried over the stressful challenge.

With the added pressure of creating custard in a warm tent at the height of the summer heatwave, the star was left emotional over her melting creations.

Commenting at the end of the task, Laura said: ‘Oh dear, I need more time!’ before adding: ‘Oh, I am so sorry.’

The contestant then walked over to the freezer where she stuck her head into it to cool down and started to cry.

To which fellow baker, Dave Friday, asked: ‘You alright, Laura?’ 

With Laura admitting: ‘I just feel so embarrassed.’

Yet despite the creations not setting in time, judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith praised her for her ‘sharp and strong flavours’.

With Prue sweetly telling a tearful Laura: ‘You’ve had a bad morning but it tastes delicious. You’re going to have a great afternoon.’ 

Fans were quick to praise Laura for ‘keeping it real’ and joked that everyone had ‘cried into the freezer at least once this year’ amid the coronavirus crisis.
