The AA reveals the best family-friendly UK hotels

The top 17 best UK hotels for families have been revealed by the AA, which also pinpointed where family-friendly hotels can be found in the highest concentrations.

It found that London has the most family-friendly hotels, with Devon in second place and Cumbria and North Yorkshire joint third.

The travel firm says that top-ranked London has 26 AA-rated hotels that are family-friendly while second-place Devon has 25.

Out of these 25 hotels in Devon, 44 per cent offer babysitting or listening services and 96 per cent have cots, highchairs and children’s menus or portions.

North Yorkshire and Cumbria both have 18 hotels each offering family facilities, according to the AA.

In North Yorkshire, 100 per cent of the family-friendly hotels offer highchairs, while 94 per cent offer cots and child-friendly menus or portions.

Meanwhile, at Cumbria’s family-friendly hotels, 67 per cent offer highchairs, cots or child-friendly menus.

Completing the top five is Gloucestershire with 16 child-friendly hotels. Out of these, 88 per cent offer highchairs, cots and child-friendly menus and 19 per cent have a babysitting or listening service. 

The rest of the top 10 comprises Hampshire (sixth, 15 hotels), Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (seventh, 14 hotels), Suffolk (eighth, 13 hotels), Cheshire (ninth, 12 hotels) and Norfolk (10th, 11 hotels).

One of the top 17 hotels, meanwhile, is Calcot, a ‘luxury English farmhouse’, located in Tetbury, Gloucestershire.

The AA notes its ‘supervised crèche and playzone are a real bonus for families’.

Another property on the list is Bedruthan Hotel and Spa in Mawgan Porth, Cornwall, which is described as a ‘very child-friendly hotel’.

The AA says: ‘It has kids’ clubs for various ages, play areas, childcare, a baby-listening service and equipment such as pushchairs that guests can borrow for free.’

The Moonfleet Manor Hotel in Dorset also makes the list with the AA pointing out that ‘children are especially welcome’.

While Fowey Hall in Cornwall is described as a ‘very family-friendly hotel with a crèche, babysitting and listening services, plus many other facilities for children’.
