Sunrise’s Sam Mac takes a dig at Today show’s Karl Stefanovic for ‘copying’ COVID-19 campaign

Sunrise hosts take a cheap swipe at Today anchor Karl Stefanovic for his campaign to help small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac launched a ‘Healthcare Heroes’ campaign on Thursday to recognise medical professionals hard work during COVID-19.

He will use his platform to provide personal shout-outs to nominated nurses and doctors who are risking their lives during the global coronavirus pandemic.

However, when speaking to hosts Natalie Barr and David ‘Kochie’ Koch he chose to make a slight dig at their Nine rivals, the Today show.

‘Imitation is the greatest form of flattery’: Sunrise’s Sam Mac took a slight dig at Today show’s Karl Stefanovic for ‘copying’ his COVID-19 campaign during Thursday’s show

During the live cross, Sam read out messages of appreciation for medical staff who were working tirelessly during hospital’s increased conditions.

‘We did Plugapalooza last week, Healthcare Heroes this week. You can see it next week on the Today show as well,’ he joked.

Kochie and Nat burst into laughter at the quick witted comment by their co-star, as Nat said ‘exactly!’

‘That’s did surprise us… Anyhow.  Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,’ Kochie added as they moved on to another news item.

Sam’s comment was perhaps in reference to Today show host Karl Stefanovic’s implementation of ‘Karl’s Classifieds’ on Wednesday.

Karl’s Classifieds is Nine’s initiative to shine a light on small businesses doing it tough with coronavirus shutdowns and social-distancing measures.
