Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac fails a driving test on live television

‘I call this kissing the kerb!’ Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac spectacularly fails a driving test on live TV as he botches a reverse parallel park

He’s the jack-of-all-trades who is prepared to try anything out while on the road for Channel Seven breakfast show Sunrise.

But there’s one task that weatherman Sam Mac hasn’t quite mastered: driving a manual car.

He failed to complete a simple manoeuvre from the driving test on Friday when he tried to reverse parallel park on a hill near the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The 39-year-old funnyman, whose real name is Sam McMillan, looked worried the moment he was told he’d be attempting a reverse parallel park.

‘On a hill?’ he asked. ‘Well, let me just try reversing first. There’s a bit of rev there.

‘Look, I haven’t driven a manual for a while. I’m going to be honest with you, but that’s all part of the fun.’

After pulling out of a car park with a driving instructor named Paul, Sam drove the vehicle downhill until he reached a suitable area.

‘This little car here. Let’s do a parallel park behind this car,’ Paul told him.

‘Behind this car? Okay, no problem,’ Sam responded.

Flicking the indicator on, he proceeded to reverse slowly, but went in too narrowly and hitting the kerb.

‘Take two, take two… Lucky this isn’t live,’ Sam said, despite the fact the segment was being broadcast live.

Driving forward and out of the position, he gave it another try.

‘There we go. There we go… Much smoother,’ Sam said as he hit the kerb again.

‘Little bit of curb is fine. I call this “kissing the kerb”. “Kissing the kerb” and then correct it like that,’ he explained.

However, Sam did a lot more than just ‘kiss’ the kerb as he ended up reversing a good portion of the car on to the sidewalk.

‘We’re in,’ he laughed. ‘What’s the next challenge?’
