Sonia Kruger admits she was ‘skeptical’ about hosting Big Brother again

Sonia Kruger has admitted that hosting Big Brother was never part of her ‘plan’ when she jumped ship from Channel Nine to Seven last year.

Speaking to the Not Here to Make Friends podcast on Thursday, the 54-year-old TV presenter confessed she had been ‘skeptical’ about her new role at first.

In fact, she hadn’t even considered hosting the show when she switched networks in November because she had already fronted Nine’s version from 2012 to 2014.

Sonia admitted she was in a ‘comfort zone’ at Channel Nine, and only left the network because she ‘had an opportunity to do new things’.  

‘Big Brother wasn’t one of them either,’ she confessed. 

She explained that she had been brought over to the rival network to host the Olympics, which were postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to the Olympics, Sonia was also supposed to host a competitive mini golfing series called Holey Moly, and was going to appear as a judge on Australia’s Got Talent.

‘It was a no-brainer. I could stay and do the same thing or I could actually take this opportunity which doesn’t come along very often,’ she explained.

After accepting the job at Channel Seven after a long tenure at Nine, Sonia said the network then called her and told her they wanted her to host Big Brother.  

‘That wasn’t part of my initial plan. And I was sceptical,’ she confessed.   

But while it all worked out in the end, Sonia admitted she began to ‘spiral’ before the show went to air, worried it would be a flop. 

She added: ‘[I thought] was it going to work? How were they going to bring it back and make it successful? But if you make a great show, people will watch it. And it’s a great show.’
