Soapwatch: CLAUDIA CONNELL’S ultimate insight into this week’s soaps

Corner shops in soaps are an Aladdin’s cave of riches. Just as every resident eats all their meals in local cafes, they buy all their supplies at the local shop.

And why not? They sell everything, even if the pricing’s a bit questionable.

When there was a power cut on Coronation Street, Dev’s Corner Shop had a supply of candles. We also learned they stock pregnancy tests (well, there is a demand).

Dev’s prices are a little strange though. Whoever’s serving just seems to make up the amount as they go.

Viewers clocked that they charged Steve McDonald £3.50 for toilet roll and Bernie £4.50 for a carton of milk.

EastEnders’ Minute Mart may appear to have rows of empty shelves but if any local wants to make a cake for a special occasion, the ingredients magically appear.

David’s Shop in Emmerdale is a classier affair. Customers can stay for a glass of wine and some olives.

The only problem is, David’s opening hours are unpredictable, as he’s prone to closing up at short notice to deal with his latest love-life dramas.

EASTENDERS: WILL MARRIAGE BE MURDER FOR WHITNEY?

Whitney and Callum (pictured) prepare for their big day following Callum’s confession of a fling with Ben in this week’s EastEnders

The day a wedding runs smoothly in Walford will be the day Phil Mitchell becomes a monk.

It’s no different for Whitney and Callum, whose big day isn’t exactly buzzing with positivity following Callum’s earlier confession of a fling with Ben.

Will the fact her intended is gay and fancies convicted murderers persuade Whitney that the wedding isn’t such a good idea?

DEADLY ASSAULT

‘I nearly brained him with a tin of marrowfat peas.’

Eileen, about Jan, Corrie

Her marriage to Lee only lasted five minutes; you’d think the girl would learn her lesson.

Bianca’s back, trying to make amends with Tiffany after failing to support her during Evie’s drug-dealing saga. Maybe Bianca was as bored by it as we were?

Mel is all set to flee Walford with Hunter in her car boot when Lisa asks for her help in getting Keanu and Louise out of the country.

It gives Hunter the chance to escape. The boy is a modern-day Houdini. First it was a prison cell, now the boot of a car.

Hunter, hellbent on killing Jack, heads to The Vic where the wedding party is in full swing.

A gun is fired and somebody’s life hangs in the balance. Now that’s an eventful wedding, even by Albert Square standards.

CORONATION STREET: DOES DANIEL DO THE DIRTY?

Keeping up his campaign to manipulate Yasmeen, Geoff tells her he is gravely ill but asks her to keep it to herself.

HARSH BUT FAIR

‘She couldn’t kill a fruit fly… bore it to death maybe.’

Evelyn, about Fiz, Corrie

When she lets the news slip to Tim and Sally, Geoff makes out that silly Yasmeen misunderstood.

Later, after faking a funny turn, Yasmeen asks Geoff to move back in with her, and he gladly accepts.

His feet under the table again, he wastes no time in telling Yasmeen she needs to have a declutter and get Alya to clear out her stuff so he can use her room.

Last week Eileen decided she couldn’t live with Jan in Birmingham, but this week she’s planning on running away with him to live in a witness protection programme. When Sean learns of her plan, he visits Jan in hospital to say that if he really loves Eileen he will leave her alone.

More importantly, if Eileen leaves, who will house all the Weatherfield waifs and strays? When Seb finds out that Mary is living in a van, he asks Eileen if she can take her in and, sure enough, Mary becomes the latest resident to get a set of keys to No 11.

Bethany and Daniel get closer, working on her grooming article for the Gazette.

Daniel is due to marry Sinead but feels her heart isn’t in it. At one stage he accuses her of putting her beard-oil business before him – not a line you hear often on soaps.

Clearly attracted to Bethany, will Daniel be tempted to cheat? We’re talking about Ken Barlow’s son here, don’t forget.

EMMERDALE: NAUGHTY NATE EXPOSED

Concerned Nate won’t keep Amy’s secret about the fire, Kerry goes to the farm to confront him – only to see him and Moira in a passionate embrace in his caravan.

Will Kerry tell her daughter what she saw? It’s a gamble since she had a dalliance with the frisky farmhand herself.

Convinced Victoria’s false testimony will get him off, Robert is adamant he’ll plead not guilty.

Problem is, Victoria is having second thoughts about committing perjury.

Whatever happens, you can be sure the trial will come around in record time, as they always do in Emmerdale.
