Seven’s multi-million-dollar project Holey Moley shuts down indefinitely due to coronavirus and rain

Seven’s new mini-golf competition Holey Moley has shut down production indefinitely due to coronavirus fears and heavy rain.

The show is being filmed in Los Angeles and a US-based crew member has informed producers they had been in contact with somebody who had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Australian cast, contestants and production team will enter 14 days of self-isolation once they land on home soil.

TV Blackbox revealed the production was Seven’s most significant financial project for this year, outside of estimations for Tokyo Olympics costs.

The multi-million-dollar production required 500 cast and crew – including Brian ‘BT’ Taylor, Olympia Valance and US actor Rob Riggle – with all 50 of the contestants flown over from Australia to Los Angeles for filming.

The production has also struggled with unusually rainy conditions, as the contestants were forced to endure long, wet nights of filming until 4am.

The production delays had led to contestants being required to stay on set throughout the night, often in wet conditions on the custom-built 18-hole mini-golf course, with filming wrapping at 4am.

The heavy rain caused the production’s equipment to fail and led to various safety issues, requiring segments to be filmed out of sequence.

The production unit has not been able to complete any episodes so far, according to TV Blackbox.

Holey Moley was predicted to premiere in August this year, following on from the Olympics, which could also potentially be disrupted by COVID-19.

Filming on the series is now unlikely to resume for some time, with extended travel restrictions in place in Australia and the US.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Seven for comment.
