But the 31-year-old looked worlds away from his time as a sporting hero while attending a family gathering on Saturday.
The former Rabbitohs star attended younger brother Tom, 27, and fiancée Tahlia Giumelli’s engagement party in Sydney.

Beaming for photos, Sam was clearly in good spirits while spending time with his family at the event.
Sam is currently going through a high-profile divorce from estranged wife Phoebe, who he first split with in December, 2018.

The split occurred less than a month after their second child, son Billy, was born.
After attempting to resurrect their relationship in April 2019, the pair separated for a second time in October, ending their marriage for good.
Sam has been trying to lie low lately after being engulfed in a number of high-profile scandals last year.

He was forced to deny he was dating American waitress Oak Schuetz, 27, in December, after they met at Sydney bar Establishment.
Miss Schuetz, who is from Seattle and works at O-Bar And Dining in the CBD, told the Daily Telegraph that she and father-of-two Burgess are dating.
She said: ‘I’m going to take a chance on him. Maybe it’s just a fling. I hope it’s not, but it’s fun right now. We’re dating for sure – it’s exciting’.

She later appeared to walk back the comments the pair were ‘dating’ each other.
Meanwhile, Sam and Phoebe have endured a bitter split with Sam getting an AVO placed on him.

The pair allegedly began arguing and police were called.
Burgess has since been banned from going within one kilometre of the home.
