‘Someday I’ll see you again, old boy’: Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald breaks down on-air as he mourns the loss of his beloved family dog

Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald has been left heartbroken after the death of his beloved family dog Cooper on Monday.

The 43-year-old radio star broke into tears as he mourned the tragic loss on Tuesday’s Fitzy & Wippa show, telling listeners they should never take a dog’s love for granted.

‘I didn’t want to do this segment, we talk about toxic masculinity all the time,’ the former Big Brother star began.

‘Blokes should be sharing their feelings in and in the current climate we are in at the moment we should be doing this quite a bit,’ he continued.

Fitzy went on to urge his male listeners to ‘talk to someone’ if they are struggling with their emotions.

He then began discussing how Cooper’s health had quickly deteriorated prior to his death on Monday.

‘It happened really fast, he hit a wall about 11 (in the morning). He wouldn’t eat he wouldn’t move. I thought he’s in a bit of trouble here. We found out he had a huge tumour in his stomach,’ he said.

Fitzy admitted that he initially tried to cope with the situation by reminding his wife Belinda to ‘be positive’, while also reminding himself ‘it’s just a dog’.

However, things became difficult when they returned home from the vet without their beloved pooch.

‘It didn’t hit me until I got home because he’s not annoying me anymore, I just wanted him to annoy me,’ Ryan confessed as he burst into tears.

The father-of-two also admitted he struggled to tel his sons Hewston, 10, and Lennox, 6, that Cooper was gone.

Fitzy went on to remind listeners to appreciate their dogs’ love while they still can.

‘Who is the one person always waiting at the door every time without fail with unconditional love? I want everyone to know don’t ever take that for granted with your dog,’ he tearfully advised.

At the end of the segment, Fitzy revealed that he’d been listening to a Spotify playlist inspired by Cooper.

‘There’s a song on there that we used to play when we would go for walks, it’s from The Strokes. It’s called Someday. Someday I’ll see you again old boy, go chase those birds mate – I love you,’ he said.
