Rod Stewart reveals he wants to make a film about his life after the success of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman… and taps Rhys Ifans to play him

Rod Stewart revealed that he wants a movie to be made about his life, following the success of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman.

The singer, 75, expressed his desire to be immortalised on the big screen while chatting on BBC Radio 2 on Thursday, where he tapped actor Rhys Ifans to play him.

Sharing his thoughts on why the Notting Hill star was perfect, he said: ‘Yeah, Rhys would be a very good idea. [But] he has got to do something with his barnet.’

He added that his 14-year-old son Alastair was keen to portray him in his youth, as he continued: ‘Alastair has offered to play me when I was 14 as there is a remarkable similarity. If it does not happen it does not matter but I would be flattered if it did.

‘But I tell you what, the Freddie Mercury one was so good. It was rock and roll. It would be hard to get something better than that but I would give it a shot.’

Bohemian Rhapsody saw Rami Malek transform into Freddie Mercury for the biopic that earned him an Academy Award, while Dexter Fletcher’s Rocketman saw Taron Egerton portray Sir Elton John in a musical inspired by his life.

‘But we are very lucky. We’ve got an indoor pool, we’ve got a football pitch – we’ve got everything we need – 54 acres.

‘So I am, thank god, very lucky and I’ve got four of my children staying with me.’

Rod, who was born in an air raid shelter in 1945, had originally been isolating with his family at their mansion in Florida but has since jetted back to his home in Essex, where he was also joined by daughter Renee, 27.
