The brutal reality of The Block’s auction day: Front-runners Jimmy and Tam reveal why they are terrified ahead of season finale

The Block stars Jimmy and Tam have been the front-runners for most of the competition.

Yet despite appearing confident on-screen, the couple have admitted they’re still concerned about not making a profit at auction.

Plumber Jimmy, 33, told New Idea on Monday: ‘We’re preparing ourselves to walk away with not a lot.’

He explained that after watching The Block over the years, he now understand they could walk away with a huge jackpot or with just a few thousand dollars from the sale of their 1950s renovation.

Tam said their biggest worry would be the property not selling at all.

‘The worst outcome is obviously the house not selling. It would be absolutely heartbreaking because we’ve put a lot of our life on hold to do this,’ she said.

She explained that the property not selling would be disappointing not just for them, but also for the team of tradespeople who helped build the home.

Jimmy added: ‘That’s one of the most stressful parts of this whole thing. We want everyone to walk away with a good amount of money.’

The Block’s contestants faced unprecedented difficulty this year after they were sent home mid-competition due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They eventually returned to film under strict restrictions, but the virus also meant that open house inspections were also cancelled.

Instead, prospective buyers were forced to inspect the renovated properties virtually – something which could have a profound effect on the outcome at auction.

On the first episode of The Block, Jimmy revealed that he and Tam signed up for the show so they could give their daughter Frankie a better future.

‘We are doing this for Frankie. We want to try and win to set our family up,’ Jimmy told producers.

The Block continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
