With wooden ‘decking’ and not a seat belt in sight, this looks more like the interior of a yacht than an aeroplane.

But an aeroplane is precisely what it is. But not any old aeroplane.

It’s Lufthansa Technik’s new SkyRetreat concept for the Airbus A220, which has a cabin designed to please cash-rich VIPs.

Buoy oh buoy: Lufthansa Technik, part of the wider German airline group, has unveiled its new yacht-style SkyRetreat concept for the Airbus A220. The luxury cabin has been designed to host cash-rich VIPs

Renderings show how it has L-shaped sofas in lieu of standard plane seats.

And Lufthansa Technik (Lufthansa’s elite concept department) imagines that the SkyRetreat will have rugs for people to sink their feet into while reclining on the couches.

The preliminary images also show that the cabin will be lit with downlights and sphere-shaped table lamps on marble-effect plinths.

There is also a ‘feature wall’ in the main cabin decorated with a soothing woodland scene.

There’s luxury accommodation, too –  twin beds for travellers to sleep on, with drawers in the base to maximise storage space.

Other features include a large 4k TV that emerges out of a side compartment – a departure from the tiny screens seen on standard planes.

Lufthansa Technik’s much-anticipated SkyRetreat concept will be fully unveiled during the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

Commenting on the unique cabin design, Wieland Timm, Lufthansa Technik’s senior director of VIP sales, said: ‘Our SkyRetreat concept makes optimum use of this spacious cabin and its technical features will provide our customers with a whole new sense of space and a unique travel experience.’
