Rebecca Adlington reveals new kitchen… after eight months of renovations during the pandemic

She’s preparing to welcome her second child in February.

And Rebecca Adlington, 31,  delightedly revealed her kitchen is now ready for her little boy’s arrival as she shared the impressive transformation on Friday.

Posting a before and after snap to Instagram, the swimmer explained how she’s now got her ‘dream’ open plan space complete with a stylish island and lots of storage.

The hard work’s paid off! Rebecca Adlington has revealed her stunning new kitchen after eight months of renovations to her home during the pandemic (pictured with daughter Summer)

In Rebecca’s ‘before’ image her kitchen was very narrow with a stacked oven and the hob along one wall and a small table with a tall chair on the opposite side.

Although still looking bright and clean, the area had a mix of materials such as black countertops and white cupboards as well as a tiled floor.

The star’s ‘after’ picture revealed the small area had been completely transformed into a chic open plan space boasting an island with blue cupboards and a white top.

Although the sink remained in the same spot by the window, it had been changed for a stylish deep Belfast style basin and all the storage along the walls now match.

Rebecca also added a blue shelf – to tie in the statement island colour – and some bright books to bring a splash of colour to the space, perfect for her growing family.

Clearly pleased with the impressive transformation, Rebecca penned: ‘Before & After photo’s of our kitchen!

‘What a long 8 months it’s been. I’ve always dreamed of having a big open plan kitchen, I didn’t quite take into consideration that it would be done through a global pandemic!

‘We originally had a kitchen and separate dining room. Now we have an open plan kitchen/dining room space.

‘We have yet to finish the other end of the room due to waiting on delayed furniture but will post once it’s finished. However, the kitchen is done. We absolutely love it.’

Rebecca also shared a few snaps of the extension being built to Instagram Stories, showing her fans that much of the home was stripped back.

Beams and brick were exposed and several yellow ladders scattered one area while another room was seen during the plastering phase of the build.

Asking her fans if they’d like to see more of the renovation, Rebecca added a poll to her post – which saw a majority of people ask for more glimpses into the work.

What a project! She also shared a glimpse into other works which have been going on at her home to add an extension

It comes after Rebecca revealed she is not a ‘strict parent’ with daughter Summer, five, who she co-parents with ex-husband Harry Needs.

The swimmer said that people expect her to be harder on her daughter because of her experience of training for the Olympics.

However, Rebecca said that she and Harry, 28, who is a former swimmer himself, have adopted a ‘good cop and bad cop’ style of parenting.

The Olympian said that she is a soft parent, hinting that Harry takes the role of ‘bad cop’ in the candid insight into their life as exes.

Talking to The Sun, Rebecca said: ‘We call it good cop and bad cop. When she was born everyone thought I would be the bad cop — because of my sports background, I am quite tough…

‘I’m like, “No, let’s do it, we can do this”. That is my kind of mentality. To be a sportsperson you have to be like that.

‘And I think everyone was like, “Bec is going to be the bad cop”. But I am definitely not the bad cop. I get told off for being too soft with Summer.’

Rebecca is due to welcome her second child in February 2021, her first child with her boyfriend Andrew Parsons.
