‘She taught me what it is to be a man’: Prison Break star Dominic Purcell pays tribute to his ‘extraordinary’ mother Maureen after she passes away
Former Prison Break star Dominic Purcell paid tribute to his ‘extraordinary’ mother, Maureen, after she passed away on Monday.
In a post on Instagram on Tuesday, the 50-year-old shared an image of himself and his mother enjoying a night out together.
‘She was a beautiful human, cool as f**k and a real beauty,’ he said of Maureen, who’d previously undergone a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

After sharing a special moment from her life where she wagged school to meet The Beatles and ‘flirted’ with John Lennon, he went on to reveal the sacrifices she’d made for her family.
‘A single mum, five kids, no money. Worked two jobs, one cleaning toilets. A woman that sacrificed so much so we could eat and play without fear,’ he wrote.
He explained it was his mum who taught him what really mattered in life – ‘unconditional love’ and how to be a man.

‘She taught me what it is to be a man – the true essence of masculinity. No muscles, no posturing. No violence. Just a simple instinctive need to provide, to protect and love my own babies as she did us,’ he said.
‘You did it, mum. A giant in life. A giant in greatness. You had the last laugh, hey mum, cheeky,’ he concluded.
The sad news comes after it was rumoured The Flash star had split from his girlfriend, former model Jodhi Meares, 48.

It’s believed the pair initially called it quits in September, less than three months after they had debuted their romance.
They looked to have rekindled their romance in December over the holidays, only to split again the following month.
Tellingly, the couple has deleted all evidence of their relationship from their respective Instagram accounts and no longer follow each other.
Dominic has also removed his post from July, in which he first announced he was dating Jodhi.
