Piers Morgan has hit out at Laurence Fox over his ‘reckless’ Covid-19 tweets amid England’s nationwide four-week lockdown.

The Good Morning Britain host, 55, told the actor, 42, to ‘just shut up’ after Laurence took to Twitter to voice his apparent flouting of the strict coronavirus restrictions.

The White Lines star revealed he had a ‘large group’ of friends over for lunch – despite England’s lockdown rules banning people from meeting indoors, or outdoors in groups larger than six.

Laurence controversially penned on Twitter on Sunday: ‘Just had a large group over to lunch and we hugged and ate and talked and put the world to rights. It was lovely.

‘You’ll never take that away from people. Stay out. Protect your rights. If the @nhs can’t cope, then the @nhs isn’t fit for purpose. Compliance is violence.’

During Good Morning Britain on Monday, Piers could not help but angrily hit out at Laurence, saying that the pandemic is ‘not about you’.

He fumed: ‘He’s made a lot of good comments about the wokies, I have sympathy for him. But his behaviour in the pandemic has gotten reckless. [He reads out the tweet].

‘Laurence, why don’t you just shut up? Seriously? Think about all the people who can’t see all their loved ones in care homes because they’re following the rules.

‘Not for their desire to carry on as normal, but because they’re thinking about other people. I just found that tweet ridiculous.

‘It’s for the most vulnerable in our society, it’s to stop them being killed. It’s not about you.’

The presenter went on to plead with Laurence to ‘think about’ what he was doing as he slated the TV star’s actions.

He continued: ‘Think about what you’re doing Laurence. You have 250k followers and you tweet garbage like that.’

It is not the first time the broadcaster has criticised Laurence’s controversial tweet, as Piers initially directly responded to the comments on Twitter on Sunday evening.

He ‘shamed’ the actor, who has previously come under fire for denying that Meghan Markle was a victim of racism, saying his tweet was a ‘selfish kick in the teeth’ for frontline workers.

He penned: ‘This is such a pathetically selfish kick in the teeth to everyone working in the NHS, many of whom have lost colleagues to the virus. Shame on you Laurence.’

The TV anchor has experienced the effects of coronavirus firsthand, revealing earlier this month that his elderly parents, who are both in their ‘mid to late seventies’, had contracted the virus.

He described their diagnosis as ‘scary’ but assured fans that they had both come out of the other side and were in recovery.

Piers said: ‘I’d like to say something to my parents, they are both battling COVID and have been for two weeks and it’s a scary thing for a family…

‘When your elderly parents are fighting it, they are both in their mid to late 70s, and they got it two weeks ago from someone in their bubble and they had to go out and they were very sensible but got the virus and then bang it was like dominoes.’

Piers’ biological father Eamonn Vincent O’Meara, tragically died in a road accident when Piers was just 11 months old, and when his mother remarried, the TV star took on his step-father’s surname.
