Parents divided over mum’s strict list of school holiday rules

Parents are divided over mum’s strict list of school holiday rules and jobs for her kids – but others defend the ‘clever’ idea

  • Parents have been left divided over one mum’s strict holiday to-do list
  • The mum makes sure her kids are up and ready for the day before screen time
  • She also makes them do chores and participate in other activities first

A mum has been slammed over her strict school holiday chore list which details what her kids have to do before they get screen time.

The list explains what needs to be done in order to ‘earn’ unlimited screen time each day.

The children have to make their beds, have breakfast, brush their hair and teeth and get dressed first.

  • No, it’s basic stuff. 256 votes

The kids have to make sure they ‘help someone’ in the house, and clean one room in the house – this could be their bedroom or the living room.

After that they are asked to take part in some activities that don’t include a screen.

They have to play outside for half an hour, read for 20 minutes, colour in or write for 20 minutes and make or build something creative.

The list was re-posted by mum central, who wrote they would be ‘hitting print’ on the mum’s rules.

But a debate broke out in the comment with many insisting the list ‘goes too far’.

‘Yea, nah. Holidays for us are winging it with no fun police. We take each day as it comes,’ one mum wrote.

Others demanded to know what the parents are doing if the kids are doing all the chores.

‘It’s called holidays for a reason,’ they added.

‘These are stupid. Let the kids have a vacation. Do you do all of these things on your vacation before you pick up your phone?’ one dad wrote.

But others agreed with the list and said they would be implementing a similar system.

‘This has come a few weeks too late for us but we will be using them on the next holiday,’ one mum said.

‘I think this is great, otherwise they get addicted to screens and you can’t get them to do anything else,’ said another.

Others already have something similar going on.

‘My kids love schedules and routines so we have one for every day – not just for the holidays,’ one mum said.

The post quickly gained popularity and has been shared hundreds of times.
