Paloma Faith’s US crossover was stalled because she refused to reshoot music video with interracial love scene: ‘I don’t want that money. It’s dirty’

Paloma Faith has built quite the following over the years as one of Britain’s favorite pop stars.

But the Brit Award winner has yet to breakout among US listeners since making her debut back in 2009.

She recently revealed that her US crossover was stalled after she refused to reshoot a 2014 music video, because it featured her kissing a black man.

Faith continued: ‘If I broke America and made loads of money as a consequence of that, knowing that I’d re-shot a video to make it not a biracial relationship, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself, I don’t want that money. It’s dirty.’

She added that a ‘very high-up exec who was African American’ told her that ‘this is the biggest chance we’ve got at breaking the States with your music career.’

‘I’ll break America on my terms,’ she told him, to which he reportedly responded: ‘”OK,” and then flew me back, and I didn’t hear from my record company again after that.’

The Perfect Contradiction artist remains optimistic about her US crossover, adding: ‘There’s still time.’

She recently revealed how she chooses the dancers and the romantic counterparts to cast in her videos.

Faith told The Sun in May: ‘I don’t have dancers that often, but when I do I find them really hot. And when I’ve done videos and stuff with guys, I always fancy the guy. I just have the best job ever because I’m allowed to snog hunky, hot guys.

‘The problem is you’re not meant to use tongues because it then becomes intimate. So you have to pretend and not use tongues. If you stick a tongue in they know.’
