P-plate tradie, 19, is caught speeding down a highway at 173km/hr in his Toyota Hilux – you won’t believe what police found when he unlocked his phone

A clueless driver has been caught filming himself breaking the law after he was clocked speeding down a highway.

The young tradie was spotted speeding in a white Toyota Hilux on the M1 Motorway near Berowra in northern Sydney at 5.40pm on Monday.

The 19-year-old P-plater driver was travelling 173km/hr in a 110km/hr zone. 

After police informed the driver his license would be immediately suspended he unlocked his phone to call a friend – revealing the incriminating video.

In the footage the young man can be seen filming himself with one-hand while driving at the incredibly high speed.

After already breaking multiple rules, the man from the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA was found to have no reasonable excuse to be away from his home address, breaching public health orders.

The man also did not have any P-plates on the vehicle, adding to his extensive list of fines.

The P-plater was dealt with a mammoth $4174 bill and issued 13 demerit points.

The offences he broke were exceeding the speed limit over 45km/hr, a $2547 fine and six demerit points,  not displaying ‘P’ plates, a $275 fine and 2 demerit points, P2 license holder using a mobile phone while driving, a $352 fine and 5 demerits and breaching public health orders, a fine of $1000.

The driver had his license suspended for six months on the spot and will receive another suspension from the RMS at a later date.
