On Tuesday’s episode, after reaching the end of a punishing challenge known as the ‘sickener’, only three were left standing.

After announcing that James had failed to pass the course, DS Ant Middleton reminded the other three recruits that the course is ‘cutthroat’.

He then announced that Nick, Merrick and Sabrina had passed, prompting the ecstatic recruits to breathe a sigh of relief.

Earlier in the episode, Nick revealed the heartbreaking reason he agreed to appear on SAS Australia during the show’s intense finale.

The former rugby union player confessed he was trying to build up his ‘resilience’ after being left devastated by his father Mark’s terminal cancer diagnosis.

‘I remember the phone call from Dad, and he said, “I’ve got terminal cancer, and I’ve got a couple of years,”‘ he recounted, getting emotional.

‘That’s why I’m here, because I want to level up who I am and what I can handle to build bullet-proof resistance, because life is going to throw a whole truckload of challenges at ya, and I want to be ready for it.’
