During Wednesday’s show, Neighbours paid homage to EastEnders’ momentous anniversary through some playfully named cocktails.

The menu was briefly seen during a scene outside The Waterhole bar, and featured some drinks that wouldn’t be out of place at the Queen Vic pub.

Drinks on offer included a Walford Sour, Fowler Fizz, Slater Colada and a Dry Mitchell, and the reference didn’t go unnoticed by many soap fans.

One tweeted: ‘Did anyone else see the #EastEnders reference in today’s #Neighbours? Both soaps are celebrating 35 years and even though I don’t watch EastEnders I hope they do the same for their Aussie counterpart. Nice touch.’

Another penned: ‘Nice little tribute to #EastEnders in #Neighbours…’

One fan also praised: ‘#neighbours paying tribute to #EastEnders, as they’re both celebrating their 35th anniversary this year. Hoping EE do the same in return!’

‘Just caught up with today’s episode of @neighbours loved the little nod to @bbceastenders on the sign outside the waterhole.’

A viewer also tweeted: ‘When @bbceastenders meets @neighbours! A little nod to the 35th Anniversary on Neighbours today!’

Fans were also hoping that EastEnders will reciprocate Neighbours anniversary with their own mention when the show celebrates its own 35th birthday next month.

EastEnders has been marking its 35th birthday with a special run of episodes this week, which has seen the residents of Albert Square suffer a brush with death after a boat party took a deadly turn.

Bosses have already confirmed that one character will be killed off during the dramatic scenes, with theories about rife about who will bite the dust.

EastEnders’ 35th Anniversary Week continues tonight at 7:30pm on BBC One.
