Misfits star Lauren Socha has rolled up her sleeves and returned to the NHS frontline by taking a job at a Derbyshire care home.

The actress, best known for her role as Kelly Bailey in the E4 show, is doing her bit by assisting vulnerable elderly residents in the fight against the novel coronavirus COVID-19, which has so far claimed 211,167 lives.

Sharing the news with Twitter followers on April 22nd, mother-of-one Lauren, 29, revealed she was enjoying the new job and admitted she needed a return to full time employment in order to support her four-year old daughter, Reenie-Rae.

She tweeted: ‘Second week working in a care home. Absolutely love it, and feel right at home. Lovely bunch of people also. 

‘Reenie understands that I need to go back to work so she has nice things and a pretty home, she waited up tonight, back on the grind tomorrow. Stay safe everyone.’

The tweet prompted an inevitable wave of positive comments from fans, with many praising the actress for getting involved in helping those most vulnerable to the killer bug.

Responding to the actress’s tweet, one wrote: ‘Omg I absolutely love that you’ve gone into caring Lauren. 

‘I’ve followed you since misfits and absolutely loved you. I’m also a carer at the moment and having someone like you fighting the same fight makes me feel a lot better.’ 

While a second added:  ‘Well done .. and a great role model for your daughter.’ 

Praising Lauren’s effort, a third commented:  ‘Absolutely brilliant that you’re enjoying it, I’m a nurse its hard graft at the moment but certainly worth it.’

Responding to one follower, Lauren wrote: ‘Thank you. Did it since I was 21. I will always continue to do it as well. The ladies and I look after are amazing.’ [sic] 

However the actress later admitted she was struggling with the physical demands of her new job, adding: ‘My back is killing me. So painful.’ 

Medical advice illustrates that people over the age of 70, particularly those with pre-existing health conditions, are more susceptible to COVID-19 symptoms.    

Earlier this month 92 new coronavirus outbreaks were reported in care homes across Britain over a 24-hour period.
