Million Dollar Listing: Alicia Keys buys architectural marvel Razor House for $20.8 million

Alicia Keys nabbed a $30 million home at a discount on Tuesday’s episode of Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles.

The incredibly gorgeous Razor House, an architectural marvel in La Jolla, California, had originally been put on the market for $30 million in 2018.

By the time the listing was handed to show pros Josh Altman, 41, and Josh Flagg, 34, it had been marked down to just under $25 million by a very motivated seller.

After Alicia got involved, it would end up going for $20.8 million in a negotiation between the two pals, suddenly on opposite sides of the deal.

‘Just get it f***ing done,’ Flagg nagged Altman, who wanted to buy it for $20 million. ‘It’s only $800,000. Tell her to write another song.’

As the episode opened, Altman revealed that he had finally found someone who wanted the Razor House, admitting it was an old client that he knew personally.

He described the woman as an ‘architectural buff’ who was so high-profile that he needed to sign a non-disclosure agreement to do the deal.

Since he had found the buyer, he’d have to face off against Flagg as the seller’s agent.

‘We were getting along so well,’ Flagg mourned, telling Altman, ‘We’re not friends anymore.’

The day of the negotiation, they met for lunch at Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles.

Flagg had discovered the buyer for the Razor House was Grammy winner Alicia, 39, and he wasn’t impressed by her team’s opening bid of $18 million.

Altman said the offer was reasonable, working out to $1,800 per foot in a difficult market, but the owner of the Razor House suggested Flagg counter with $20 million at least.

Flagg told Altman it could go for $23 million, and Altman said $20 million was his final offer.

Each of them wanted to squeeze the other out of a little extra money, so when Flagg offered to let the home go for $20.8 million, Altman weakened.

‘We got a deal,’ he agreed, making $780,000 and hugging his friend, who earned $260,000.

The two Joshes weren’t the only ones seeking buyers for a pricey property on the episode.

Tracy Tutor, 44, had just one week to organize an open house for brokers at the New Castle, a five-bedroom luxury property in Malibu owned by developer Scott Gillen.

Scott was notoriously protective of his properties, and if Tracy couldn’t make the event work, she’d lose access to Scott’s $500 million real-estate portfolio.

‘He’s impossible to work with,’ she admitted in a confessional. ‘He’s indecisive. He says one thing and the next day changes his mind and goes completely in another direction.’

In the days leading up to the event, Scott called Tracy ‘at all hours of the night,’ texted her relentlessly, and kept rejecting her invitations and invitation list.

‘I’m exhausted,’ Tracy told Altman, who’d walked into her office from down the hall.

Altman shocked her by sharing that he’d had the listing ‘two years ago, for 10 days.’

‘It’s going to destroy you, I’m telling you,’ he warned Tracy, adding privately that Scott’s constant needling was ‘unbearable. There’s no light at the end of the tunnel.’

The day of the open house, Scott’s team carped about delivery trucks being too close to the house, and equipment laying around, while Tracy fretted over a broken glass and a broken shoe.

Under Scott’s watchful eye, she tried to show the home to its best advantage, knowing she wouldn’t get another chance and could in fact lose the $100,000 she’d spent promoting it.

No one was allowed to eat inside the house, or even use the bathroom, making things tougher.

Tracy subsequently discovered that Scott had put Saran Wrap around the toilet in one bathroom.

‘Holy s***,’ marveled broker James Harris, 35. ‘There’s particular, there’s Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and then there’s completely f***ing nuts.’

Tracy’s bosses, the chairman and CEO of real-estate firm Douglas Elliman, also showed up.

When Altman arrived, he shook Scott’s hand, recalling that the last time they’d seen each other, they told each other to ‘f*** off.’

He urged Scott to lower the price on the place, lest it stay unsold for too long.

‘I know you’re trying to break a record, but you’re going to break a record for days on market,’ he told Scott, who drove off.

Elsewhere on the episode, James and his business partner David Parnes tried to help their pregnant client Brittnie and her husband Jeremy find a place before Brittnie gave birth.

The couple, who owned a ‘very successful marijuana company,’ felt drawn to a $6.785 million six-bedroom home in the Pacific Palisades.

It was ‘the epiphany of a modern new construction,’ James pointed out, but he worried that much of it was not kid-friendly.

With no time to spare, the couple bought the house for $6.6 million, asking the owner to thrown in a handful of necessary upgrades. Just a few days later, Brittnie gave birth to her first son, Tiger.
