Millie Mackintosh shares post about her daughter growing up in an equal world amid BLM protests

Millie Mackintosh has received a mixed response from her fans after sharing an impassioned post about her daughter growing up in an equal world on Instagram.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 32, took to social media to share her thoughts amid the Black Lives Matter protests, which are taking place across America and in the UK.

The new mum related the situation to her baby daughter – whose name is currently unknown – and said that her little girl is a reminder that everyone is born to love.

However Millie has been pulled up by some of her followers, who criticised the reality star for using the phrase ‘all lives matter’ in her post.

Millie, who shares her daughter with husband Hugo Taylor, shared a pictured of a graphic which said, until you fix here [heart] and address it here [home], nothing changes here [world].

Alongside the image, she wrote: ‘Its so hard to know where to even begin……….. Looking at my new baby daughter everyday is a clear reminder that no one is born to hate, no one is born to be biased, we are born from love and we are born to love.

‘I understand that it is our responsibility as humans and parents to be pro-active with ourselves and our children’s growth by starting conversations at home and making sure we are all informed and openly communicating for an anti-racist future.

‘I fully acknowledge the privileges myself and my family were born into and benefited from largely because of the colour of our skin, and I find it so upsetting that those words even need to be said – but they DO!

‘Together we can try to understand, explain, share and support – because all lives matter. As my daughter grows I want her to be a part of a world where freedom, choice, opportunity, equality and respect are basic rights for all humans and that we stand together in solidarity #justiceforgeorgefloyd #togtherwestand #blacklivesmatter.’

Millie has since revised the post to remove the phrase after some of her followers rushed to the comments section to condemn her use of it.

One social media user advised her to tweak the post, and wrote: ‘Change all to black in your second to last sentence and you’re spot on.’

A different person agreed and said: ‘This was all until you used the phrase all lives matter.’

While another said: ‘All lives matter – destroys everything you wrote. As white people we have freedom, choice opportunity, equality and respect.

‘Use your platform to project and support for those member’s of society that do not already have this. I feel this post to be insincere and quite honestly sitting on the fence and for that reason I am officially unfollowing you.’

A fourth person said: ‘Congratulations on your gorgeous daughter! But please it’s important to spread the message that Black lives matter. We know all lives matter!’

Another questioned her choices, and said: ‘I’d reconsider whether placing your own family at the centre of this and using the words ‘all lives matter’ was the right way to go.’

However one fan jumped to Millie’s defence and said: ‘In this instance why is saying all lives matter such an issue? She has acknowledged the issue? She has acknowledged the white privilege she has.

‘She knows RIGHT NOW we need to focus on black lives for everyone to eventually become equal (black lives matter is hashtagged). Aren’t we all hoping for a future that all lives matter equally and defeat racism together?’

Another person simply wrote: ‘Well said’

While another said: ‘Beautifully said, we are born from love and we are born to love, love is always the way.’

The phrase ‘all lives matter’ is deemed offensive in the context of the Black Lives Matter movement. It represents a misunderstanding of the meaning of ‘Black Lives Matter’, which isn’t that black lives matter more than any other lives.

The point of the movement is that black people’s lives are relatively undervalued in the U.S. The phrase actually derives from the slogan, ‘black lives matter, too’
