The actor revealed that he asked his assistant to find out if Catherine would be attending, if she was alone and if she wanted to grab a drink.

Michael said that despite the actress only being at the festival for one night, she agreed to a drink and even invited him to dinner with the film company.

He joked in the clip: ‘I thought: “This is looking good, this is looking good!”‘

Michael said after dinner, Catherine had to go and do some work for the film but he invited her for a night cap back at the bar.

He joked that it was like Lawrence Of Arabia and Catherine walked in like a ‘mirage’ through the hotel lobby later that evening.

Michael said that it was here that he delivered his infamous like ‘I’m going to be the father of your children’.

He joked: ‘I probably made a big mistake when I looked at her and said: “I just wanted to tell you, I’m going to be the father of your children.”

Michael added: ‘I thought I had completely blown it but I’m happy to say, we remained contact and the rest is history!’

The couple announced their engagement in December 1999 before marrying at New York’s Plaza Hotel after Michael finalised his divorce from first wife Diandra Luker.

In September, the couple celebrated their respective birthdays with sweet gushing tributes on social media.

In a curious twist the pair were born on the same date, albeit 25-years apart, with Michael celebrating his 76th birthday and Catherine her 51st on September 25th.
