‘One of the biggest moments of my career’: Maya Jama delightedly teases her new BBC prime time show… just weeks after leaving Radio One

She recently announced that she was stepping down from her role as a Radio 1 host.

But Maya Jama appeared to be relishing moving forward with her career in a candid post uploaded to Instagram on Saturday.

The presenter, 25, heaped on the praise for Peter Crouch’s Save Our Summer as she gets set to co-host the new BBC prime time show.

Breakthrough: Maya Jama, 25, appeared to be relishing moving forward with her career in a candid post uploaded to Instagram on Saturday

She donned a plunging denim jumpsuit and a pair of peep-toe heels as she messed about on set.

Maya uploaded the photos alongside a lengthy caption that read: ‘If I’m honest I’ve not felt like myself recently with everything that’s going on in the world & it’s been hard to think of anything else but trust me I am having those conversations behind the scenes about what we can do in TV and production to make a permanent change towards ending racism.

‘This is one of the biggest moments of my career so far and I know those of you who have followed me for a longtime will know what this means to me, I’ve kept it kind of quiet what my next step would be after radio but you will be able to see me every Saturday night at 9:15pm on @bbcone starting tonight.

‘A whole Saturday night prime time TV show host is wild, tune in if you can & let me know what you think.’

Earlier this month, Maya announced she was stepping down from her role as BBC Radio 1 Breakfast host.

The corporation confirmed the star has ‘made the difficult decision not to continue her contract’ due to other commitments.

Maya said: ‘Thanks to all you cuties that tuned into the show. It was so great to hear that we have been getting the largest proportion of under 35s tuning in for our on-demand show via BBC Sounds. So we are going out with a bang! Love you.’

Maya, who joined the station in 2018, broadcast her final show on Friday 3 May.

A press release read: ‘Exciting commitments later in the year mean that she is not able to dedicate the time needed to her show.

‘She has loved every moment of her time at Radio 1 and would like to thank the team for their hard work and friendship during the last two years. ‘
