Married At First Sight star Hayley Vernon spoke candidly about suffering from psoriasis – a skin condition that causes itchy and scaly patches.

The finance broker, 32, told Now To Love she first noticed an itchy spot on her left forearm the size of a five cent coin when she was a teenager.

‘It was very itchy and I didn’t know what it was. I thought it might have been a rash. I didn’t know what to do, so I put hand sanitiser on it, thinking it would get rid of it,’ she said.

She explained that the condition came at a difficult time for her as she was dealing with her parents’ divorce, working at a fast food restaurant, partying a lot and drinking alcohol which caused the condition escalate.

The body building enthusiast revealed that at it’s worse, the psoriasis broke out in patches on her legs, elbows knees and her ears.  

‘It was so painful. It was out of control. It controlled my life.’

Hayley visited a doctor at a skin clinic and was prescribed medicine that help her manage and take control of her psoriasis.

She said that the doctor told her she needed to change her unhealthy lifestyle for the pills to work and Haley changed her diet, drank more water, worked out and manage her stress.

Eventually, the psoriasis disappeared as a result of her hard work and discipline.

‘This is something people spend thousands of dollars trying to fix. It affects you mentally, because it knocks around your confidence. Don’t let that happen to you,’ she told the publication.
