Josh Pihlak has revealed the bizarre explanation behind his black eye.
During Sunday’s commitment ceremony, the Married At First Sight groom’s mystery bruise distracted viewers from his emotional split from ‘wife’ Cathy Evans.
Many fans took to Twitter to speculate he may have been involved in a secret punch up with a co-star, which producers failed to capture for the show.

However, Josh has since revealed he endured the injury during his homestay week in Newcastle while drinking with friends, after Cathy had returned to Sydney.
‘[I’d] had a few beers and thought it would be a good idea to ride a kayak down my driveway, come up a headsa (sic) and hugged a few trees. My driveway is bloody steep,’ he told Instagram fan page MAFS Funny on Sunday.
The truckdriver, 28, also shared a picture proudly posing with his kayak in his garden with the fan page, before sustaining the injury.

Before revealing their decisions, Cathy argued that she ‘tried to engage’ with Josh during their stay in Newcastle, but he just felt she ‘didn’t want to be there’.
‘I’ve found it really hard to reflect on my decision, just because we were such a strong couple from the beginning. I put a lot of effort into this relationship, but I now know that I’m not for Josh – and Josh isn’t for me,’ said Cathy, ending things.
Josh added: ‘For me, I care about Cathy and I’ve been through so much with her. I hope that one day we can be friends, but before it gets any worse, I choose to leave.
‘It’s so bloody disappointing. We had a spark straight up, but unfortunately we didn’t get our happy ending. You don’t have to be sorry [Cathy], we just didn’t work.’
