Married At First Sight: Cast left jobless and out of pocket after filming

Several Married At First Sight participants gave up high-paying jobs to take part in Nine’s social experiment.

And Daily Mail Australia can reveal that a handful of stars have been left jobless and out of pocket after filming the show between September and December last year.

Furthermore, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has effectively ended their careers as professional celebrities.

Reality stars like to cash in on their 15 minutes of fame with nightclub appearances, but these venues have been ordered to close to the limit the spread of coronavirus.

The global health crisis has also affected the influencer marketing industry as many businesses that rely on this type of advertising temporarily close.

Hayley Vernon walked away from a $150,000-per-year job as a finance broker in Melbourne to film the show last year.

After returning home earlier than expected after her split from David Cannon, the 32-year-old bodybuilder got a job mixing concrete to pay the bills.

On November 3, Hayley shared a photo to Instagram of herself in high-vis workwear and appeared to be enjoying her new career as a labourer.

‘Have I told you the story of the girl that fell in love with being a trady [sic] and is considering getting in the tools full time!?’ she wrote.

Ivan Sarakula, 30, left his job of two years as a Sydney real estate agent after Married At First Sight.

He parted ways with McGrath Estate Agents in mid-January after taking three months’ leave of absence to film the show last year.

There were concerns at McGrath over how Ivan would be portrayed on screen and if this would reflect badly on the business.

Gary Vouris, head of sales for McGrath Sutherland Shire and Illawarra, told Daily Mail Australia in March the decision had been a mutual one.

Ivan said he was excited to take his career in a new direction. He is now working as a property partner at another well-known estate agency.

Mishel Karen was left thousands of dollars in debt after filming MAFS.

She sustained a serious injury while skiing on her honeymoon with Steve Burley in September last year.

The 49-year-old police worker tore her meniscus on the slopes in Queenstown, but she chose to ignore the pain and continue filming.

She underwent surgery on February 3, a month after filming had wrapped, and spent thousands of her own money in medical bills.
