Mariah Carey hilariously responds to Shawn Mendes’ post about being ‘grateful’ for her old music

Mariah Carey is no stranger to adoring fans, but she couldn’t resist responding to a fellow pop sensation’s post about feeling ‘grateful’ for her old music on Wednesday.  

After Shawn Mendes, 22, shared a shirtless selfie with an earnest caption confessing his love for her expansive songwriting catalog, her next move left him in wonder. 

‘Grateful ❤️The sun, tea, my health, my family, old Shawn Mendes songs, music, humans!!!’ the mother-of-two wrote on Instagram, nodding to his sweet post. 

In addition to copying his caption verbatim, apart from replacing her name with his, Carey posed with her arms stretched out in a near-identical recreation of his post.  

For the snap, she wore a black long sleeve, her hair in a long braid and smiled brightly as the shone radiated on her face.  

Upon seeing the Obsessed singer’s cheeky shoutout, the three-time Grammy nominee commented a series of hearts and laughing emojis. 

Mendes’ original post garnered more than 4.1 million likes in less than 24 hours and comments from singers Sam Smith and Charlie Puth requesting suggestions for their own playlists.

After Puth, 29, asked ‘which Mariah song in particular’ Shawn was listening to, Carey, herself, jumped in to say she wanted to know ‘the same thing!’ 

Additionally, Trevor Noah said he had a problem with the wording of Mendes’ caption, which described her songs as ‘old.’ 

‘Mariah Carey songs are never old. They’re just timeless!!!,’ the 36-year-old host gently corrected.  

Mendes’ girlfriend, Camila Cabello, also recently shared a video in which she also shared feeling thankful for her boyfriend, family and community. 

The inseparable duo  met in 2014, but only began dating on July 4, 2019.
