Maren Morris shares a throwback from her dancing days and another performing to a sold-out crowd

Before becoming one of the leading voices in country music today, Maren Morris spent her childhood learning to play guitar and attending dance classes in Texas.

While the Grammy-winning hitmaker has since evolved to performing sold-out shows, she gave her more than 1.5 million Instagram followers a look at her origins.

‘How it started vs. how it’s going,’ the 30-year-old songwriter captioned a childhood snap of herself in a jazzy dance costume and another singing to a massive crowd.

In the precious photo from her dancing days, she can be seen confidently striking a pose with her hand in the air and a large sequined bow in her hair.

During the photo shoot, Morris’ younger self wore a striped black and white leotard with polka-dot trimming under a sparkly hot pink vest and a pair of long gloves.

Her next photo showed just how far she has come with a snapshot of herself headlining a concert for thousands of guests on her recent RSVP: The Tour.

From a young age, Morris gravitated toward music, which accelerated after she received her first guitar at 12-years-old.

According to E! News, she went from just singing along to the radio to turning her poetry into songs.

‘I started playing all around Texas—any bar or club that would let me in there. I was the only kid in school that had a job on the weekends,’ she wrote on her website.

By 20, she moved her life from Arlington, TX, to Nashville, TN, in pursuits of her dream to become a singer.

However, after being rejected from both The Voice and American Idol, Morris shifted her focus to songwriting.

‘I think about all of the freaking talent shows I’ve tried out for in my life and I’m so glad I didn’t make any of them,’ Morris previously told Rolling Stone Country.

As she became an established writer for dozens of household-name, the star gained the confidence to sing her own tracks again.

‘It took me a while to have that confidence,’ she told NPR. ‘I think for a long time I was in a little bit of denial over my voice coming back, if that makes sense.’

On her website, she clarified: ‘I would have been happy just being a songwriter, but there was a voice in my head saying, you’ve got to sing these.’

Over the years, she has also found happiness in her marriage with her husband Ryan Hurd, who she wed in 2018, and raising their seven-month-old son Hayes Andrew.
