Madonna ‘is thinking about casting Florence Pugh to play her’ in hotly-anticipated biopic

Madonna is reportedly considering Florence Pugh as a potential actress to play her in the upcoming biopic about the her life.

The Little Women actress, 25, is thought to be a favourite of movie execs, however the Material Girl singer, 62, will have the final say on the cast, reports The Mirror.

Also reportedly in the running for the chance to portray the singer during her younger years is fan favourite Ozark’s Julia Garner, 26.

A source said: ‘The bosses who are helping put the movie together want Florence [Pugh] and nobody doubts that she could be amazing.

‘On the other hand, fans and the press have already weighed in… Julia is their frontrunner because she is such a dead ringer for early-career Madonna. 

‘The final decision will be Madonna’s alone… she’s putting herself under serious pressure to find the perfect person.’

Fans previously suspected that Julia was going to be announced as they young Madonna after the singer followed her on Instagram in August.  

Madonna’s longtime manager Guy Oseary also followed the rising star on the same day, prompting further speculation. 

While Florence has been in high demand since appearing in Midsommar and Little Women, with Deadline recently reporting she’s signed on to film The Maid.

Madonna is co-writing the film about her life with Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody while film executive Amy Pascal will serve as producer.

Speaking about the project on Instagram last year, Madonna said: ‘I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a ­musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world.

While last October the Queen of Pop and Diablo revealed that the script had already reached 133 pages – which Cody mentioned was ‘insane’ and ‘biblical’.  

‘That’s a big script,’ she observed, sparking Madonna to reply: ‘It’s a big life!’ 

Madonna has past directed projects such as the 2008 drama Filth and Wisdom and the Abbie Corning movie W.E. in 2011.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, a musical mainstay for more than 35 years – she had her first number one hit with 1984’s Like a Virgin – en route to a historically-successful career in which she’s sold more than 335 million albums.

Madonna and Diablo Cody were seen collaborating in an Instagram post last week, as she wrote on Friday, ‘Are you ready for the story of my life… Am I?’ with the hashtags #livetotell #diablocody and #screenplay.
