‘I feel like I’ve done kind of every genre from romantic comedies to dramas to westerns to playing a policeman, a lawyer, so it just seemed like something new and different,’ he explained.

Luke, the younger brother of fellow actor Owen Wilson, stars in the 13-episode series Stargirl, alongside Brec Bassinger.

Brec plays high school student Courtney Whitmore, who takes on the role of Stargirl.

Luke acts as Courtney’s stepfather Pat Dugan, who morphs into superhero S.T.R.I.P.E with a powered armoured suit.

The Texas-born star admitted to News.com.au on Saturday that having watched Star Wars in his childhood, he thought the role would be a piece of cake.

‘One of the things that struck me was like, I just assumed it would be easy,’ he said.

‘You’re flying this robot around, you get in the cockpit, like Han Solo flying a Millennium Falcon.

‘Reading the script, I took for granted that you really have to concentrate even though it might seem kind of simple,’ Owen continued.

Stargirl is available to stream now on Binge.
