It was recently teased ‘beloved characters will die’ in the upcoming series of Lucifer.

And the first trailer for season five of the hit Netflix show suggest the next season will be the most explosive yet, as Tom Ellis reprises his title role in the show.

However no sooner did he leave, Lucifer appears to have already made a return in the new trailer for the next season of the programme.

All is not as it seems as Chloe admits Lucifer is acting ‘strangely’, while he brushes away her concerns by revealing he may have changed slightly while in hell.

Yet all is soon revealed as Mazikeen [Lesley-Ann Brandt] questions him on why he didn’t take her back to hell with him when he left, before he shockingly confesses he is Lucifer’s twin brother, Michael.

The twin menacingly states that he has not come to ‘ruin’ Lucifer’s life, but instead wants to take it for himself.

But it may not be plain sailing for the doppelgänger, as the end of the trailer suggests that Lucifer won’t make it easy for him.

The new trailer comes after it was revealed Netflix has ordered a sixth and final season of its hit show Lucifer.

Season 5 was commissioned by the network after Fox cancelled the dark thriller at the end of its third run.

It was renewed by Netflix for a fourth season, after which it was green lit to continue on with a fifth and final run.

But fans are speculating that bosses could have changed their minds, and that there will be a sixth, after excitable enthusiasts noted that Netflix has not touted season 5 as the last – whipping up much of a frenzy as a result.

After transferring to Netflix, the show became the number one binged show on the site for eight weeks, despite Fox getting rid of it thanks to ‘bad ratings’.

Fans were mortified when the show was initially axed from Fox, with a final episode shelved.

Much to the relief of avid Lucifer enthusiasts, Fox decided to air it after all. Season 4 then followed on Netflix in 2019.

The series follows fallen angel Lucifer Morningstar who becomes sick of ruling Hell and so returns to Earth.

Ending up in Los Angeles, he begins running a nightclub and ends up becoming a consultant to the LAPD, all the while battling a series of seraphic threats that descend upon the city.
