Lisa Curry has reflected on 2020 and thanked everyone, including the strangers who supported her following the death of her eldest daughter, Jaimi, in September.

In a post on Instagram on Thursday, the 58-year-old former competitive swimmer shared a series of moving photos of what appeared to have been Jaimi’s memorial at the beach.

She detailed her unbearable loss in an emotionally raw post, and said she was still struggling with her daughter’s premature death.

‘This year has given us more pain than we can bear. More tears have flowed than all years before this,’ she began.

‘The tears will be used to water the seeds of hope for all people who struggle every single day. Somehow, at sometime, this mess will turn into a message.

‘Lessons will be learnt from loss… and I will try and help you.’

But she said she’d been comforted by everyone who had consoled her, including the strangers who’d reached out.

‘To all the people that have lost a child and sent me and still send me countless messages of love and support, I want to thank you,’ she added.

‘People I don’t know and people I do: Heather and Sue from Melbourne who sent me a Bunnings voucher to use for Jaimi’s garden, so thoughtful, and Sandra who did the same.’

Lisa said she had also received letters and messages from famous friends including former Prime Minister John Howard, and fellow athletes Dawn Fraser, Raelene Boyle, Brian Lara and Tracey Wickham.

‘Every man, woman and child – strangers who have sent me letters or hugged me in the butcher, the grocery store, on the streets – famous or not – just people who care,’ she continued.

‘And all the messages here on social media… I realise we are not alone and I take comfort in that and I return the love and strength that we all need.’

‘Our hearts are completely broken. Our beautiful daughter Jaimi has lost her battle with a long-term illness and passed away peacefully in hospital yesterday morning with her loving family by her side,’ she wrote at the time.

She added: ‘Our hearts are broken and the pain is unbearable but we cherish every wonderful moment we got to share with our treasured and so loved first child.’

'Every man, woman and child - strangers who have sent me letters or hugged me in the butcher, the grocery store, on the streets - famous or not - just people who care,' she continued

It was later reported by The Daily Telegraph that Jaimi had battled with alcoholism and an eating disorder before her death in a Sunshine Coast hospital.

In a post on Instagram in November, Lisa confessed she was still grappling to come to terms with her daughter’s death.

‘It still doesn’t seem real. It still feels like Jaimi will come home. She always did,’ she wrote.
