In the wake of the jarring sequence of events, riots began in Minnesota and spread both nationwide and internationally, with thousands of people taking to the streets to protest racism and police brutality, even amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

At one of the protests, Lil Yachty grabbed a megaphone and expressed his views on the crisis surrounding racism and law enforcement in the country.

‘I feel like we gotta stand for something or we’ll fall for anything, you know what I’m saying?’ he said. ‘It doesn’t make any sense to me … why we have to go through breaking windows’ and ‘demolishing’ the local area … ‘just to show our frustration’ against incidents like the one involving Floyd.

‘It shouldn’t take that – but that’s the life we live in, and we gotta do what we gotta do, we’re gonna stick together, because that a most important. Whether you black, whether you white, green, yellow, purple – we’re a family and were gonna show them what it takes.

‘Black lives matter and that’s what it’s gonna be.’

Lil Yachty captioned the post: ‘I am no different from the next man. Every voice matters and must be heard.’

Other notable names who were seen protesting in the streets included J. Cole, Nick Cannon, Halsey, and Machine Gun Kelly.
