Dunham in her video on Instagram explained why she was embarking on the project.

‘I think that even during social distancing it’s important to find ways to connect. And one of those is through storytelling, which is why I’m going to be writing a romance novel exclusively for Vogue.com. The part that makes it communal is that you get to vote on where the story goes,’ she said while standing in front of a fireplace.

She added: ‘And, please also be safe and stay indoors. That’s what this whole thing is for people. What am I even writing for, what’s the purpose?’

Dunham in the caption also supplied more details on the writing project.

‘Right now, we should all be using our unique skills and passions to make this period of time feel a little less lonely. My humble dream is to lift your spirits while we’re #socialdistancing (heck, I want to lift my own) and storytelling is the tool I know how to use,’ she wrote for her roughly 2.9 million followers.

She added: ‘I hope you are all safe and sound. Sending love and hopefully some happy entertainment. The link to read along is in my bio! Oh – and ask me questions with the hashtag #VerifiedStrangersOnVogue and I’ll answer some on IG stories and in comments too! Will you tell me what moments made you laugh, cringe or relate? Does Ally remind you of yourself?’.

Dunham created, directed and starred in the HBO series Girls that ran for six season from 2012 to 2017.

She is currently living in London in preparation for her next movie.
