Lacey Turner says she would support her daughter if she faced teen pregnancy like EastEnders’ Lily

EastEnders’ Lacey Turner reveals that she would support her real-life daughter Dusty, 3, if she was to ever face teen pregnancy…. as on-screen character Stacey has with expectant daughter Lily, 12

Lacey Turner is currently involved in one of the youngest ever soap pregnancy storylines as her on-screen daughter Lily, 12, (Lillia Turner) prepares to welcome a child.

And reflecting on how she would handle the situation in real life, the EastEnders actress, 34, has revealed that she would act similarly to her character.

Putting it into the perspective of her off-screen family, the star shared this week that she would support her own daughter Dusty, 3, if she ever was in the same position as a teenager.

‘I would give her all the tools and the knowledge she would possibly need,’ explained Stacey, who shares daughter Dusty and son Trilby, two, with husband Matt Kay.

This is a similar perspective to her character Stacey, who has been supporting young daughter Lily since the pregnancy news – which came after she slept with classmate Ricky Mitchell Jr, also 12.

Lily initially planned to abort the baby but has decided to go through with it after much deliberating, with mum Stacey and dad Martin (James Bye) standing by her.

While the EastEnders pre-teen pregnancy storyline initially raised eyebrows, the cast and writers have since shared that the circumstance is more common than many think.

‘I think initially my reaction was the same as most people’s — “Wow, that is young” — but having done research, it happens,’ Lacey shared during a chat with The Sun this week.

The actress continued that she even recieved a message of thanks for raising awareness on the topic from a new mum in hospital, who explained that she had met a 12-year-old girl in hospital who was also giving birth.

Lacey added: ‘She wanted to thank us for highlighting the story and portraying what happens in real life’.

While her character has managed to stay strong and supportive for daughter Lily, Lacey was probed on how she would handle the situation in real life.

Noting that it wouldn’t be dissimilar, the actress said: ‘I hope that if Dusty did come home I would be able to explain to her how difficult at times it can be as a parent and give her all the tools and the knowledge she would possibly need.

‘Hopefully she would make the right decision for her, whatever that would be,’ continued Lacey.

Adding the importance of not having secrets between a parent and child, the actress explained that the show is highlighting this by showing that there is someone to talk to about these issues.

EastEnders is known for creating stigma-breaking storylines as they tackle current and prominent issues through the soap.

Off screen, Lacey enjoys family life with husband Matt, who she tied the knot with in 2017 with a private ceremony in Ibiza.
