Four-bedroom home in a pleasant Australian suburb goes on the market for FREE – but the lucky buyer should know there’s a HUGE catch
- Four-bedroom home in Kirrawee in Sydney’s south is on the market for free
- But the new owner will need to pay to transport the home to a new location
- Seller said the tenants living in the property were paying $700-a-week in rent
- Can be cheaper to offer house for removal than paying $25,000 for demolition
A four-bedroom house in a peaceful residential suburb has been put on the market for free – but the incredible deal doesn’t come with the land included.
The home in Kirrawee in Sydney’s south, which its seller says is about 60-years-old and has two bathrooms, is listed as a ‘free house for removal’.
That means those looking to take advantage of the offer will need to pay to remove the home and transport it to a new location.

The advert appeared on Facebook and Gumtree (pictured), where it was listed with the headline ‘house for removal (free)’
‘Good condition – no structural or pest damage,’ the listing posted on Facebook said.
‘Pick up start of March – only have to pay removal costs. Tenants currently paying $700 per week rent.’
The advert also appeared on Gumtree, where the home was described as having a ‘modern kitchen and laundry’.
The house and the land together have an estimated value of $1.56million, according to realestate.com.au.
The land itself would likely make up most of the site’s value; another vacant 670sqm plot of land in the suburb sold for $1.32million in September.
The median house price in Kirrawee is $1.3million, slightly less than the $1.5million mid-point average for Sydney.
For the home’s new owner, the cost of removal would be about $70,000 – excluding council fees and the re-connection of the house’s plumbing and electrical wiring.

Offering houses for sale without the land is often cheaper for the seller than hiring a demolition crew.
In 2018, a home in Mortdale in Sydney’s south was put on sale for $5,000 on the condition the buyer moved it to a new plot of land.
The property’s builder said it would cost as much as $25,000 to demolish the home.
‘The other option is a special removalist that comes and jacks up the house on its piers, and takes it away,’ he told Domain.
