Khanh Ong defends Laura Sharrad’s decision to make pasta dishes on MasterChef

Ousted MasterChef star Khanh Ong DEFENDS Laura Sharrad after she was slammed by viewers for only making pasta dishes and reveals the real reason she is always criticised

She’s  left viewers unimpressed after continuously serving up pasta dishes on MasterChef: Back to Win.

But recently ousted chef Khanh Ong has defended his co-star and long-time friend Laura Sharrad’s decision to stick to what she knows best.

Speaking to Now To Love on Monday, the 27-year-old labelled the criticism as ‘unfair’ and said if people counted up all Laura’s dishes, pasta wouldn’t even be half of it.

Ousted MasterChef star Khanh Ong, 27, (pictured) has defended fellow chef Laura Sharrad after she was slammed by viewers for only making pasta dishes on the Channel 10 show

‘They found her and instead of attacking her because they just don’t like that she’s on TV again, they’re attacking her for pasta,’ he told the publication.

Khan continued: ‘That’s not the reason that you’re angry, I honestly think that.

‘She is very, very beautiful, and so people want to tear her down. It’s a jealousy thing, and it is nothing more than that. It’s 2020 we do not have time for that anymore.’

Laura has made no secret of the fact that pasta is her specialty.

It’s not surprising, she runs pasta restaurant, Nido Bar and Pasta, with her husband, Max, in Adelaide.

‘This is what I do. This is my heritage,’ she said during one episode.

‘I think this dish is showing a lot of technique, a lot of skill using ingredients that I love using, both Italian and Indigenous.’

But fans of Channel Ten’s revamped cooking show have been left disappointed after Laura continued to make several pasta dishes throughout the season.

In one episode, the remaining contestants were given a ‘mystery box’ of four ingredients to contend with. In Laura’s case, they ended up being apples, potatoes mint and peas.

After revealing she set her sights on whipping up a tasty gnocchi, the 24-year-old was roasted by viewers on Twitter.

One fan wrote: ‘Laura’s the reason there’s not a single bag of pasta left in Coles. It’s the only thing she can cook.’

A second joked: ‘Three certainties in life. Death, taxes, and Laura will cook pasta.’

‘I’ve not watched this episode but already know the pasta dish is Laura’s,’ joked another fan, presumably just tuning in to judging.

It’s not the first time Laura has been called out by the cooking competitions loyal fans.

MasterChef continues Thursday at 7.30pm on Channel Ten
