Kevin Bacon is thrilled with ‘positivity’ around his #IStayHomeFor campaign

Kevin Bacon has revealed he is thrilled with the ‘positivity’ and support’ that has been given to his #IStayHomeFor campaign during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Monday.

The actor, 61, launched the initiative, which sees people write the name of the person they are staying home for and tagging six people, in order to encourage more people to stay indoors during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Footloose star is taking his campaign seriously and admitted when he sees some extended family members, they remain 10 feet away from him and do not come inside the house.

Over the moon: Kevin Bacon, 61, has revealed he is thrilled with the ‘positivity’ and support’ that has been given to his #IStayHomeFor campaign

He said: ‘I see a lot of positivity and support for each other. We’ve been told to stay inside for the best of our ability, but it’s okay to go out and take a walk and walk a dog, and get some fresh air. You can do that, but you have to do that logically.’

The A Few Good Men star – who has children Sosie and Travis with wife Kyra Sedgwick – has been able to ‘see’ his loved ones but not had any physical connection with them.

He said: ‘I have family members who I’ll still see but only outside and at a 10ft distance, which is really strange. They’re not coming into the house but I’ll actually be able to see them.’

Kevin explained how he launched the campaign – which has been embraced by the likes of David Beckham and Demi Lovato – to serve as a reminder for those working on the frontline against the disease and also the ‘unlikely heroes’ who don’t have an option to stay in.

He said: ‘I want to keep in mind that there’s a lot of people who can’t stay home, and we should be staying home for them to protect the first responders and the medical workers and the unlikely heroes who are coming out of this thing – the people who work in grocery stores and essential services, who don’t have the luxury of staying at home.’

The initiative was sparked by the famous ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ game – which claims people are only six connections away from the ‘Footloose’ actor – and he admitted the pandemic has served as a ‘sad and scary’ reminder as to how bonded everyone is.

He said: ‘It’s a very, very true idea that we are all connected and this virus is a really sad and scary example of that, when you see how it is spread to person to person to person.’

In his own #IStayAtHome video, Kevin tagged David Beckham, Elton John, Jimmy Fallon, Brandi Carlile, Demi Lovato and comedian Kevin Hart to do it next.

David soon posed with his own sign that simply said, ‘#IStayHomeFor VB and my kids.’

The athlete, who is married to Victoria Beckham, nominated his son Brooklyn, soccer coach Gary Neville, his nutritionist, chef Gordon Ramsay and late-night host James Corden.

‘Staying at home for the ones that we love,’ the former soccer player captioned his Instagram. ‘Thank you @kevinbacon for nominating me. I’m staying at home for Victoria and our kids, including Cruzie who’s made his way into this photo.’

Elton, 72, also responded to Kevin’s nomination with an inside look at his chic kitchen and plans to play inside with his kids.

‘#IStayHomeFor @davidfurnish and our boys. Today it’s snakes, ladders and staying inside to stop the spread of coronavirus. Who are you staying home for?’ he captioned a photo of himself sitting in front of a board game, wearing tinted glasses in a shimmery tracksuit.
