Katie Waissel shared a throwback image of herself as a ‘goofy, shy and slightly insecure’ child in a candid Instagram post on Tuesday evening.

The former X Factor star, 34, declared she ‘wouldn’t change my past for the world’ as she discussed being ‘true’ to herself.

In the flashback photo, the musician beamed in a navy jumper and shorts as she stood in what appeared to be a sports stadium, which she uploaded alongside a recent snap of a more confident-looking Katie.

The media personality detailed the importance of ‘not judging a book its cover’ as she insisted while she may appear different, the ‘essence of who I am’ remains the same. 

In a detailed caption, the singer wrote: ‘T H I S I S M E – I’ve been having this conversation a lot recently with someone very close to me and it sparked me to post this. 

‘I had been explaining to him that albeit people have an expectation of you to be a certain way based on your exterior (never judge a book by its cover), it by no way means that a) you are that person on the inside and b) that you have to try and be that person. You are you. Be proud!’ (sic)

The mother-of-one went on to explain how why she decided to share the childhood photo with her social media followers, detailing: ‘So as I went through my old laptops to find the most honest and genuine representation to show you who I am as a person, I’m proud to share these.

‘Here is the goofy, shy, slightly insecure, headband wearing, ears sticky outie, passionate about music, proud of all accomplishments and goals achieved, heart on my sleeve girl that I still am today. 

‘Just because my exterior has grown and developed with the times, the essence of who I am (including my sticky outie ears!) is still the same. And you know what, I wouldn’t change it for the world! I am proud to be me!

The He’s in Love hitmaker, who shares son Hudson, 23 months, with ex Andy Speer, has been open about her motherhood journey in the past, having insisted she’s ‘proud’ to raise her little boy in a single-parent household.

‘The other night I put Hudson to bed and […] and I thought, ”You’ve done all right, Katie, you should be proud of yourself,”‘ she told Closer magazine.

In the reflective post, she looked back on how far she has come in the last year after starting 2019 feeling ‘completely inadequate, helpless and alone’. 

The brunette welcomed her son Hudson in July 2018 after splitting with boyfriend Andy when she was eight months pregnant.

She then embarked on an intense 10-month long fitness overhaul that saw her lose two stone and drop three dress sizes.
