Kate and Rio Ferdinand joke she’s turned into ‘the headmistress’ while homeschooling his three children during coronavirus lockdown

They’ve been keeping fans motivated with their YouTube workouts.

And Rio Ferdinand joked that his wife Kate has taken on the role of ‘headmistress’ while homeschooling his three children during the coronavirus lockdown.

Speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain, the couple admitted it’s been ‘hard’ adjusting to their new life at home but they’ve found it easier by keeping some structure to their day.

Kate told Piers and Susanna she does a majority of the homeschooling with Rio’s children Lorenz, 13, Tate, 11, and Tia, nine, although it’s been a challenge to adjust.

She said: ‘It’s hard homeschooling we’re struggling with, I think it’s hard to manage fitness work cooking having a clean house and homeschooling, but we have a bit of structure and we are getting through at the moment.’

Asked who is taking on the teaching duties, Rio was quick to point the finger at Kate, saying: ‘She’s the headmistress!’

During their interview, the couple also spoke about how they’ve been keeping fit during the lockdown by filming exercise videos for fans at their home.

Rio explained: ‘I think it’s motivation is the key word, you’ve got to sit there and think am I gonna slump and get into these bad habits or am I going to motivate myself to energise myself.   

‘You can use a can of beans, water as your apparatus. We have done this as what we do as a hobby as a family and it’s turned into something people have requested to do more.’

Kate added: ‘We just need structure, we just random apparatus have some structure and that helps us to stay motivated, if we don’t get up and don’t have some routine, us the kids we really struggle.’

Rio also praised NHS staff placing their lives on the line during the coronavirus pandemic, saying: ‘I just think what they’re doing is amazing, there’s no words that would do enough justice for what they have done in this country and the people. 

‘It’s just phenomenal. I feel like we need to give that homage because they deserve it. Long may that continue.’
