Karl Stefanovic calls out Today show producers over on-air blunder

Did you spot the gaffe? Karl Stefanovic calls out Today show producers after a bizarre blunder during a car segment

Karl Stefanovic took a swipe at the Today show’s production team on Thursday after an on-screen graphic including a glaring spelling mistake.

Money expert Effie Zahos was delivering a consumer news segment about car sales skyrocketing as more Australians holiday at home due to border closures.

However, the name of automotive company Toyota was misspelled as ‘Toyoyta’.

‘I know you’re going to love this next screen, Karl, because you have a Toyota Landcruiser, correct?’ Effie said.

The graphic then changed to show a list of used car models and how their prices have increased as more people buy vehicles for road trips.

As Effie continued her report, Karl cheekily interrupted to ask her whether the ‘Toy-oy-ta’ was a ‘particularly good Landcruiser’.

‘Is that a particularly good landcruiser, the Toy-oy-ta?’ Karl Stefanovic (centre), 46, hilariously pointed out the name of Toyota being spelled incorrectly while on-air with money expert  Effie Zahos (left) and co-star Allison Langdon (right) on Channel Nine’s Today on Thursday

Effie joked that the ‘Toyoyta Landcruiser’ was so expensive because it’s ‘very rare’.

Getting back on track, Effie explained what Australians should avoid doing when buying or selling vehicles.

‘If you wanted to buy one you probably won’t get a good deal. Discounts are probably going to be a bit hard,’ she said.

'I wish I had one of those!' The team was spotted laughing at the simple but hilarious blunder, which was probably made by producers beforehand

‘If you want to sell and don’t need a second car, then bingo – you can make some nice cool cash.’

Karl humorously responded: ‘There you go. Keep your eyes open for the Toy-oy-ta.’

The Today show airs weekdays from 5:30am on Channel Nine

Never a dull moment! Just as Effie finished the segment, Karl cheekily mentioned the 'Toy-oy-ta' mistake again and told viewers to keep their eyes open for the 'very rare' vehicle
